Wireless Computer Speakers- Choosing the Best

Enjoy music from every corner of your home with wireless computer speakers, which use wireless technology to produce sound output. They can be set up anywhere in your home or office since they do not require cables. Wireless speakers are usually made up of several speakers, each with its own positioning specifications.

Different kinds of wireless speakers

Wireless computer speakers come many different types. Here are three of the most common.

The 7.1 wireless computer speaker system has six two-way satellite speakers, one two-way center satellite speaker, and one sub woofer. Good brands produce excellent sound output and are perfect for a variety of functions. Whether for playing games, listening to music, or watching movies, the 7.1 version is perfect. Meanwhile, the 5.1 wireless computer speaker system has four two-way satellite speakers, one two-way center satellite speaker, and one sub woofer. It is great for mid-level applications.

Finally, the 2.1 wireless computer speaker system consists of a pair of satellite speakers and a two-way center satellite. It is ideal for computer games, but not for listening to music or watching movies.

How to choose a wireless speaker

When looking for good quality wireless computer speakers, it is best to first check for compatibility. Make sure that your computer and operating system supports wireless functions – if it does not, then wireless computer speakers cannot be installed. Next, make sure that your wireless speakers can pick up signals from a wide range. It is best to buy products that have a Bluetooth system so furniture and walls cannot block regular radio signals.

7 Best Wireless Computer Speakers

Computer speakers are an essential part of any good computer setup. The speakers contribute to the whole experience of a great setup. The longer time goes by the more advanced computer systems are becoming and advances usually means more speakers. Anybody will want more speakers but who wants more cables?!

There is a way around the spider’s web of cables. Go wireless. Like everything else, modern speaker systems can do without the connecting wires and simply transmit the sound signals through the air to the receiving speaker. Below we have listed 7 of the best wireless computer speakers.

1. JBL On Air Control 2.4G wireless speaker system. JBL are well known for creating great looking and great sounding speaker systems. This is no exception. Solid build quality and works way beyond the claimed 70 feet range. A superb wireless speaker system.

2. A Rocketfish universal wireless rear speaker kit will add wireless rear speakers to your existing system. They state that the system will work with any existing computer speaker system and we found this to be accurate. Great sound and could be a cheaper option that buying a full new surround sound system. Easy to set up but a wireless remote control would have been nice.

3. Altec Lansing T515 is a small set of speakers from Altec. These are not surround sound speakers but are more like a portable speaker system so no sub and not particularly huge bass but good sound quality never the less. Priced at under ninety dollars makes this a cheap option for a laptop owner.

4. Audio unlimited wireless speakers are weather resistance speakers that can be installed anywhere. Interference free and good sound quality. A problem with these speakers is that there are volume controls on each speaker so it is difficult to get a good balance. They work great at the advertised distance and seemed to work adequately at slightly greater distances.

5. Acoustic research AW877. Acoustic research creates some exceptional speakers and this wireless offering is no exception. The speakers generate accurate and crisp sound at the advertised distance. They are easy to install but any RF interference seems to effect the sound quality dramatically.

6. Cisco Linksys wireless speaker kit is a wireless speaker system from ciscos Linksys department. Linksys are the department that usually brings us wireless routers and network equipment but these provide excellent sound quality at a great price. The sound quality is excellent and the performance over distance is astonishing. We didn’t find a room big enough to stop them working!

7. Panasonic SC-PT770 Is a high end offering from Panasonic and has a wireless link between the front and rear speakers. The sound quality is great and the bass response is earth shaking. The addition of an IPod dock is an unexpected useful bonus.

Extra speakers do not necessarily mean you need additional wires.

1 Major Advantage to Wireless Computer Speakers

Wireless speakers are the ideal solution to extending your computers sound capabilities without the need for more bulky and messy cables. Wireless speakers work by sending the audio signal through the air rather than along a cable. This approach has a number of advantages as well as a number of disadvantages.

Advantages

1. No need for extra cables. The clue is in the name, wireless computer speakers don’t use wires, so no more snaking cables across the dining room.

Disadvantages

1. Limited range can be a problem. Anything further than the length of a big room could be a problem for some systems and could cause bad sound quality or cutting out.

2. Receivers and transmitters will both need some form of power whether it be batteries or mains adapter.

The advantage of a no wire computer sound system seems ideal at first but you should be aware that some systems claiming to be wireless actually do require a certain amount of cabling. It is important to check before you buy.

Although the list of disadvantages seems to be bigger than the advantages the fact that you will not need cabling is a major advantage and could mean the difference between drilling holes to hide and route cables and just placing a speaker on a shelf without any work whatsoever.

What to look for in your wireless computer speakers

1. Look for a reputable manufacturer. Find reviews on the internet and check what everybody else is saying. The internet is your friend when you are about to buy a new product.

2. Check which speakers are wired and which are wireless. Most wireless systems have some wiring involved. You may decide that wired front speakers and wireless back speakers are the way to go, this will save you money and will mean less power supplies.

3. How is the system powered? Battery power may be fine for a while but batteries run down and your computer speaker system will suffer. The sound quality will gradually get worse as the batteries run down. Much better to go for a mains powered system. The disadvantage of this is that you will need a supply socket near one of the rear speakers and a cable between the two.

There doesn’t seem to be a truly completely wireless computer speaker system but modern wireless speaker systems are pretty good at saving the amount of cabling.

The best way to guarantee you find a good system is to search the net for information.

Wireless Computer Speakers

Wireless computer speakers are easier to install especially the satellite speakers. They can be placed anywhere yet still produce excellent sound output. They can be attached to the media to enjoy game playing, listening to music or watching movies. They can be powered thru battery or AC current. Most of them work using IF technology or Intermediate Frequency. Some use 900 MHz of frequency which transmit up to 150 feet. Other models need wireless receiver.

This new technology works by replacing cables with a wireless receiver or transmitting unit hooked up to a PC soundcard. The more advanced models have a built-in hidden video camera perfect for office settings.

The three most common types of wireless speakers are the 7.1 Wireless System, 5.1 Wireless System (surround sound) and 2.1 Wireless System (stereo only).

The 7.1 wireless system is composed of six 2-way satellite speakers, one 2 way satellite and one subwoofer. The maximum power output is 700 watts with frequency response of 40 MHz.

The 5.1 wireless system has four 2-way satellites, one 2-way center satellite and one subwoofer. Most models come with wireless remote controls.

The 2.1 wireless system is ideal for computer game fanatics. It has a pair of satellite speakers and a 2-way center satellite.

There are also wireless speakers for the outdoors, usually with built-in batteries. These units can be charged for 20-24 hours, and can play for 3-4 hours straight when fully charged. The range can be as far as 100 feet to 100 meters.

The growing popularity of wireless computer speakers can be attributed to several factors. First of all, it does away with the hassles of installing cables and cords. This is safer and provides more mobility. Second, the working area looks cleaner and more organized minus the clutter.

These devices are easier to configure and can be hooked up with MP3 players and cellular phones with Bluetooth. Its digital features provide clearer sounds. Modern designs are durable and water proof.

Of course you have to pay the price for technological advances. Wireless speakers are generally more expensive. The models that support longer range signals are even more expensive.

Another setback is since wireless speakers depend on satellites, there must always be a clear line of sight between the receiver and the satellites. Natural calamities may interrupt this smooth connection. Radio waves connectivity may also be disrupted.

Check your computer and operating system first before deciding to get a wireless speaker. Some computers may not be compatible and do not support the wireless function.

If you can afford it, it is better to get models with longer or wider range signals. It provides greater mobility, the very definition of wireless that you want to enjoy. It is advantageous to get the bluetooth system powered speaker. It minimizes interruptions and works well up to 5 meters from the source. It is also recommended you get speakers that operate on rechargeable batteries. These are more environment-friendly.

Check if the unit you want to get has a return policy.
